چکیده

Abstract We reconstruct the history of reionization using Gaussian process regression. Using UV luminosity data compilation from Hubble Frontiers Fields we redshift evolution density and thereby source term in ionization equation. This model-independent reconstruction rules out single power-law but supports logarithmic double parameterization. obtain by integrating equations with reconstructed term. optical depth constraint Planck cosmic microwave background observation, measurement function integrated until truncation magnitude −17 −15, derived fraction high quasar, galaxies, gamma-ray burst observations, constrain reionization. In conservative case find on as τ = 0.052 ± 0.001 0.002 at 68% 95% confidence intervals. duration between 10% 90% to be 2.05 − 0.21 0.30 + 0.11 0.37 . Longer is supported if −15 used joint analysis. Our results point that even a reconstruction, combination cosmological astrophysical observations can provide stringent constraints epoch

The Thermal Memory of Reionization History

The recent measurement by WMAP of a large electron scattering optical depth τe = 0.17 ± 0.04 is consistent with a simple model of reionization in which the intergalactic medium (IGM) is ionized at redshift z ∼ 15, and remains highly ionized thereafter. Here, we show that existing measurements of the IGM temperature from the Lyman-alpha (Lyα) forest at z ∼ 2 − 4 rule out this “vanilla” model. Un...

The Reionization History in the Lognormal Model

We study the evolution of baryonic gas before the reionization in the lognormal (LN) model of cosmic clustering. We show that the thermal history of the universe around the reionization can roughly be divided into three epochs: 1) cold dark age z > zr, in which baryon gas is neutral, and opaque to Lyα photons; 2) hot dark age zr > z > zgp, in which a predominant part of baryon gas is ionized an...

History of Hydrogen Reionization in the Cold Dark Matter Model

We calculate the reionization history in Cold Dark Matter (CDM) models. The epoch of the end of reionization and the Thomson scattering optical depth to the cosmic microwave background depend on the power spectrum amplitude on small scales and on the ionizing photon emissivity per unit mass in collapsed halos. We calibrate the emissivity to reproduce the measured ionizing background intensity a...

Constraining reionization using the thermal history of the baryons

The thermal evolution of the intergalactic medium (IGM) depends on the reionization history of the universe. Numerical simulations indicate that the low density IGM, which is responsible for the low column density Lyα forest, follows a well defined temperature-density relation. This results in a cut-off in the distribution of line widths as a function of column density. We use hydrodynamic simu...

The reheating and reionization history of the universe

We incorporate quasars into an analytic model to describe the reheating and reionization of the universe. In combination with a previous study of galaxies and Lyman-α clouds, we are able to provide a unified description of structure formation, verified against a large variety of observations. We also take into account the clumping of the baryonic gas in addition to the presence of collapsed obj...
